Subject

In addition to the application and basic research-oriented teaching activities in the field of vehicle drives, the staff of the Chair of Automotive Powertrains also conduct research in the area of "Increasing efficiency and minimizing emissions and noise of vehicle drives". The focus is on the systemic optimization of internal combustion engine drives (gasoline and diesel engines) as well as hybrid and fuel cell drives.

Prof. Michael Bargende was born in Crailsheim in 1956. After studying mechanical engineering in Stuttgart, he earned his doctorate in 1991 at the Technical Universities of Darmstadt and Munich. From 1982 to 1998 he held various positions in engine development at Daimler-Benz AG and Mercedes-Benz AG. From 1998 until his retirement in the winter semester 2022/2023, he has worked at the Institute of Automotive Engineering (IFS) at the University of Stuttgart since 1998, initially as holder of the Chair of Internal Combustion Engines and since 2011 of the Chair of Automotive Powertrain. In addition, Prof. Bargende has been a member of the Board of Management of the Research Institute for Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS), which is closely associated with the University of Stuttgart, since 1998. He is also a consultant for various German research associations, including the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF), and a member of the supervisory boards of various companies in the automotive industry. As an author or co-author he has contributed to more than 200 scientific publications on combustion, thermodynamics, charge exchange, acoustics, mechanics, modelling, simulation, control and regulation of combustion engines and hybrid drives.
